And this is why we NEVER shake the polish bottle, kids....

I wanted a spring-ie Easterish manicure for Sunday and really wanted to use the aptly named sparkly pastel glitter Chick-a-dee Doodah from the one and only Lacquistry. Sally Hanson Complete Barracuda is a gorgeous creamy light blue leaning ever so so slightly green, as opposed to a true powder blue like Zoya Blu.  It was late, I was in a hurry, and the SH polish had a lot of separation, as pastels do, into layers with the white base settled at the bottom. I don't know what came over me, but I shook that thing within an inch of its life to get the white to blend back in, then applied it right away (::::gasp::::, :::::horrors:::::, :::::infidel!:::: I can hear you thinking) Yeah, I messed up. Look at all the tiny bubbles that are enshrined in the polish! One day and gone, that's the lesson and the price to pay. Kids,. DON'T try this at home, ROLL your polish. Always.

Throwback Thursday! (I did the polish Thursday...)

I was challenged in a group by Debbie Crumpet to use Thursdays to try untrieds or anything unused in over a year. I dragged out Essie Sew Psyched, one of my first TEN polishes, maybe my first five...and clicked around looking for ideas to jazz it up. I remember feeling so risque wearing khaki green polish to work back then.....2009? I stumbled onto Vicky at Boombastic Nails- GORGEOUS work she does, go, follow her... here. I forgot how lovely this green with gold shimmer polish really is- and I stuck with the rules using Lacquistry Witches Wart, I haven't used it since October 2012....

I Don't Normally Swatch...

I only had time for a quick swatch of these glitter lovelies from the ever brilliant and creative Jenna of Lacquistry (go see here ) but I love both of them for the fall thru holiday season, these are gorgeous.  Jenna describes Pallor as: Pallor is a blend of matte grey and holo charcoals in a clear base. Pallor is lovely on its own with 2 coats giving full coverage. You get the best of both worlds, the sophisticated grey matte glitters and the lovely twinkle of the color shifting charcoal holo glitters to catch the eye.
and  Shaved Ice is a mixture of color shifting clear glitters and color shifting pigments.

I've painted two coats of each (P,SI,P,SI) plain on left and over black on right- click the pics to close up on these beauties! No topcoat

Be Still my heart- Lacquistry's Vegas, Baby!

It's so sparkly I could only bear a couple fingers of this brilliant glitter topper- it has dozens of different colored glitters with every single one holographic! It deserved a gorgeous base- so I used China Glaze Galactic Gray from the newest holo line ChG put out.  As others have pointed out, it's not really gray, more of a dusty brownish-pewter with a reserved but very linear holo effect. The ChG is a very durable holo, unlike many others, probably due to the pigment/additives needed for the rainbows.  HK Girl over, with a layer of Gelous on the glitter first.

I'm a Barbie Girl?

I do NOT know what possessed me other than knowing I have a granddaughter due this summer. China Glaze Fade Into Hue and Surreal Appeal accented with Lacquistry Chick-A-Dee-Doo-Da. The slightly grayed lavender is two coats, the pink needed a third but I didn't bother because I was glittering. One coat of glitter-

Elizabeth's Bad Curtains

Why, yes, that IS my name on a bottle of Lacquistry glitter nail polish! Thanks for asking! This story begins early this year when the brilliant Jenna of Lacquistry (go, like, here) randomly asked her facebook followers if anyone had ever wanted a polish named for them, like some brands that use girl's names?(but never mine) and she would consider making some polishes with names. I pounced and clawed and scratched and got my name second on her list. Then she started making customs with the intent to design the name polishes in summer, THEN SOME glitters in a few of her previously sold polishes apparently melted/bled and she took it upon herself to replace EVERY SINGLE BOTTLE of polish that had those glitters in them, bleeding or not. Hundreds of polishes. THEN she had to get a fall and Halloween collection out, THEN she started on the names. Whew! So here may I present, all credit to the wonderful, generous and amazing lacquiteer Jenna, MY polish based on the 70's- Elizabeth's Bad Curtains. I layered two thin coats over a single coat of Nubar Tiger's Eye, a reddish-copper duochrome. I was aiming for the glitter alone, but the base is only slightly tinted and I didn't want to use three or more coats. I added Gelous and HK Girl over.

Here is Jenna's description:

Oh the colors of the 70's! And the decor- oy vey! My Uncle used to have these curtains in his house that were this thick scratchy brown material with orange and yellow threads woven throughout. They were hideously Bad Curtains!
Elizabeth's Bad Curtains is named after Elizabeth Stern who was one of the winners of the Facebook "namegame" contest back in the beginning of the year.
Elizabeth's Bad Curtains is a darkened cool brown jelly with fine brown with brown holo, orange, and matte yellow mini hex. If you are a fan of polyester this polish is for you!

Lacquistry Witches Warts

Sorry for the dearth of pics- my phone would NOT focus in on all the glittery goodness. Witches Wart is my fave from Jenna's Halloween collection (thank you for making polishes for general consumption once more!!) This went on so perfectly, one easy coat over two coats of Orly Decoded, a dark blue leaning gray. I wanted the tiny holo glitters in WW to stand out without the green and black glitters disappearing into the background- I'm quite chuffed with myself at my choice!
Jenna has a few fallish colors left on her site here

Lacquistry is BACK!!!!

SO SO happy Jenna is back up and running! After taking QUITE a while off from her etsy shop to concentrate on customs, then replacing HUNDREDS of bottles of polish unasked, at her own expense because she heard a few glitters may have been bleeding (what character!!) she's back in spades with a new fall collection, a Halloween coming up, a small Thanksgiving, etc etc. so many beautiful glitters on the way! I snagged the full set of six fall colors and have two here today. I love to layer over opaque creams, so I started with two coats each of the dreamy creamy FingerPaints Catwalk Cream, a perfect dupe for the 60's appliances color Harvest Gold. And if you know what that is, you're over 50. The brown I chose is Catrice's Bruno Brownani (that name, really???) a dense deep chocolate cream. Two thin layers of the goldendelicious Laquistry Corn Maize and the red/gold/brown glitterparty that is Cornucopia, a heavy layer of Gelous and Seche Vite and I am ready for fall!
Here are Jenna's descriptions:

Corn Maize:  Corn Maize is poppin’ with varying shades of yellow, gold, and even a bit of white “kernels” in a clear base sprinkled with crystalline yellow glitter. Dappled throughout are pieces of golden corn silk- (bar glitter).

Cornucopia: Cornucopia is a medley of 25 different micas and glitters ranging from deep browns, oranges and gold to rich reds, golden yellows, and copper in a slightly brown tinged base. Cornucopia’s largest glitter is mini-hex.

Just try to catch her next opening, HERE but watch out, I may run you over!

Lacquistry hits it out of the ballpark- again- Oh Yes I Did!

I bought this beauty a few months ago and was planning on waiting until later toward the fall to bring it out- but something in the sparkle every time I opened my Helmer beckoned to me. I  had seen a few swatches, nothing to write home about, and now I know why- a camera cannot capture the sheer magnificence of this coppery-aqua-holo glitter polish! It has a sheer copper base that snuggles the tiny brown, fine holo blue, brown and light blue holo hex glitters. Brilliant!  I layered it over the amazing nails inc. earlham st.- a deep coppery shimmer with faint green and pink micro glitters. One coat of Oh Yes I Did! One coat of Gelous and a thick coat of Seche Vite. I am so glad the sun won't be out this weekend. I have places to go and the rainbow of sparkles is quite distracting.

Lacquistry and her Artistry!

So, I've been swatching my collection on sticks and grabbed the 5 new Catrice polishes I have acquired in the last month. One is a beautiful celery green cream with a fine jade shimmer in it, called Sold Out Forever. I bought Lacquistry's outrageous holo/sparkle/diamond/heaven  called Miles to Go Before I Sleep for two reasons: first, come on, look at it! second, Frost's poem was the second one I ever memorized (it was required in 5th grade) after Jabberwocky (I discovered that was my dad's favorite poem and promptly memorized it so I could recite it for him :) SOFE goes on like most pastels, a little patchy, but I knew I would be covering it up so I did two thin coats. A third or a heavier application would have sufficed.
Now, I'm not gonna lie. MTGBIS is a pain in the patoot to apply. Chunky, sticky, FOAMY?! (where did THAT come from?) and even after a full dropper of Seche Restore was thick and gloopy. There is no painting this stuff on. Dab and swipe, dab and swipe. BUT and that is a huge BUT...it's so worth it. Even knowing I would have to use Gelous, Out the Door AND Seche Vite. Even knowing I will have to soak in acetone mittens for awhile. This is a dream polish, kindof how I hope the streets of heaven will look. This is the air unicorns breathe out....  :)
