30 Days of Untrieds- OPI Holiday Glow

What I thought was going to be a simple purchase from the generous-to-a-fault Debbie Crumpet turned into a HUGE RAOK for me! Along with a half dozen Kikos, she blessed me with this OPI HTF Holiday Glow. It's from the 2009 Holiday Wishes collection and is pretty much the only one of the set I would really wear. Here's a much better representation of the color than my measly phone can produce LOOK! Holiday Glow is a sheer red brown with micro red and pearl glitters in it- It did take 4 coats but the polish is quite thin and doesn't feel built up on the nail. It's a trifle rough, so I may add another layer of Dazzle Dry in a day. I really love this type of polish- it looks deceptively plain but up close has a shimmer and shine that is quite beautiful.

See the red sparkle??

Oldest Untried AND 31 Days of Untrieds

KB Shimmer Band Geek (or, as my label says, BanK Geek) was the first one of this indie maker I bought. I also acquired a few others at the same time, and being as it was summer I never pulled this dark beauty out. I also knew application and cleanup were going to be tough, but that's what challenges are for, right!! There are silver, copper and gold glitters in various shapes and sizes in a black jelly base. Two coats plus dabbing- tricky but doable. Two coats of Dazzle Dry over. You can still get your own here.

30 Days of Untrieds- again

Everyone else in the family has worn Zoya Wednesday since I got it last summer, except me. And now that I put it on, I can't remember why I hadn't tried this earlier. It's a Zoya creamy two coater- slightly muted greenish mint- aqua-ish. Very lovely and even goes OK with my skin. I layered one coat of Ninja Polish's Love, Lace 'n Lawsuits over it, a mix of many white matte glitters with a shimmery base.
Sorry for the two pics- hard to get the light blue and tiny holo shimmers to show up.

blurred to try to catch those shimmers!

30 Days of Untrieds- post 2

I don't do my nails every day, so don't expect 30 posts!!  These two polishes were gifted to me from my darling birthday group. Hufflepolish is an etsy brand that unfortunately seems to have disappeared. Venus is a creamy-jelly (crelly) pumpkin-orange scattered holo that was nearly opaque in 2 coats but I smudged and had to use three. Application and cleanup were fantastic. I dabbed Tough as Nails Shut Your Sweet Potato Pie Hole on a couple nails for accent. The base matched perfectly and what give me the WOW with this glitter is the holo pieces scattered throughout.  from the maker: "Shut Your Sweet Potato Pie Hole is packed with various shapes and sizes of orange and gold glitters in a shimmery jelly orange base. This does contain holographic glitter as well as bar glitter. " shown with HKGirl topcoat.

30 Days of Untrieds

Ok I got hooked by a new event on facebook- all manicures for the next 30 days with untried polish ONLY- this ought to be easy- I've been meaning to try this Lush Lacquer over gray but never could get past all the pretty greens and oranges of the last couple holidays. The base is China Glaze Elephant Walk from this summer's On Safari collection- it's a special gray in that it's ever so slightly green leaning and has a subtle shimmer- not picked up my my *&@$#%@^ phone camera. Ahem. LL Midnight Affair is a great clear based blend of assorted matte black, white and shiny red glitters- very proper and I think office friendly. Three coats of the ChG, two thin coats of glitter- HKGirl topcoat, Gelous over glitter only. I might actually wear this a few days!

Up to Snow Good!

The talented Barbra at I (heart) Nail Polish here made an amazingly generous offer in a facebook group I'm in . She offered one of her lovely concoctions for the cost of shipping. I jumped on this one because it is such a unique combination, unlike anything I own. (and that's saying ALOT) Her description is here :

It’s made up of a variety of translucent teal, blue, white, aqua, prism, and pearl glitters.

I layered one easy coat (no dabbing!) over two coats of China Glaze Def Defying and the accent nails also have two coats of butter london Dosh. The smell is very Kleancolor- reminiscent, but if you can get over that, it's brilliant. I appreciate especially the white shards and ultrafine pearly and holo sprinkles.

I only used one coat of HKGirl over- could use a second, but I don't think Gelous would be needed.
