Mermaid Tails- Challenge 8/31

Wasn't into nail art tonight, so I looked for some colors to "interpret" the theme- I layered KBShimmer Shipwreck (fitting name!) over Orly Halley's Comet (why did I almost sell this??) Halley's Comet is a beautiful aqua green fleck foil that's thin and perfect in three coats. Shipwreck is one of the most desired of Christy's creations, and rightly so- a turquoise jelly filled with all manner of blue, green, teal purple and holo glitter with a secret ingredient- tiny copper specks. Stunning.
Topcoated with Gelous and Poshe.

Happy Birthday Debbie Crumpet!!

I've been saving these polishes for quite a while- in honor of my bestest-never-met-but-we-are-kindred-spirits friend, the incomparable Crumpet from the UK. She loves purple and squares so I decided to do a {{gag}} purple mani to show her how much I love her. AND I will wear it all day WITH a purple shirt. Now THAT'S love! The base is two coats of the very very purple aEngland Avalon- Debbie reviews it herself here and I'm relieved to see her pics are as blue as mine- there isn't blue in this polish, in fact, it's a pinky purple. Not that cameras care a whit. Two coats that flowed on- first was a bit sketch, second covered, COULD have done three for complete coverage. Accent nails got the now discontinued KB Shimmer The Square- a conglomeration of white, peach, purple, blue and teal squares in a purple jelly base. Cult Nails Wicked fast to top.
Happy Happy Birthday doll!!

Pre cleanup and TC but shows color more true

needed three coast, I think

Sunshine for my Fingers!

Don't know if anyone is following, but there is a hurricane south of Florida right now and although it isn't going to hit near me (this time) it is bringing a crapton of rain. Last week we didn't see the sun the first three days of the week, and this looks to be the same. So I decided I would paint some sunshiney goodness on my nails! I was *hoping* Zoya Pippa would be my two-coat yellow wonder, alas, it was not, from the close up you can still see a bit of pulling, even though the polish was a bit thick and even though I waited a good 3-5 minutes between coats. Not being happy with imperfect three coat coverage, I added a little design with SH Mint Sprint, a truly one coat minty aqua that applied like  a dream. And i have FINALLY realized that quick dry topcoats WILL SMEAR YOUR ART no matter how long you wait. The TC melts the polish and makes the colors run. I was pretty quick "floating" the Cult Nails Wicked Fast TC but not fast enough. :( But the brightness makes me happy and that was my plan!

Just extended mani from 8/22

Threw a light coat of Essence Julia over the Zoya skittles mani- Julia is a blend of tiny hex and medium square holo glitter- didn't take too much away from the colors like a denser glitter might- (told you there would be glitter!)

The One That Blows Crumpet's Mind!

PURPLE!! TWO PURPLES!! Well, they're only on four nails, but she has NEVER seen purple on me at all! I thought I would dip my toe into the amethyst waters wearing a skittles mani using 5 of the 6 Zoya fall Designer colors a couple of my birthday gals sent me! (thx Bee and Claire!) All the colors are creamy, deep and smoky- Evvie (lighter gray/green on middle fingers) might have used a third coat but I am very happy with application and coverage.  Watch this spot closely, there MAY be glitter happening here soon....Poshe to cover. (oh, and there is a patch on my left hand pinkie in case you were wondering)

Needed a Pick-Me-Up

One of my facebook groups was having a deep discussion about holographic polishes, and I hadn't worn one in a while, so I grabbed my trusty Nubar Reclaim (note to self: get a back up) and did two thin coats over Seche Retain and dabbed a little Enchanted Greetings Earthlings (a salad bar of holo bars, aqua, gold, black and pink glitters in a greenish base) over a couple nails.
Nubar Reclaim is from their 2009 Going Greener collection that is still available from all the usual channels including ebay and amazon. Scrangie did a gorgeous review here that convinced me early on in my polish obsession that I needed the whole thing, so I managed a decent deal for the set. I love them all, but especially as this was my FIRST holo polish, it holds a special place in my heart. AND it's green. win/win. Effortless application, easy clean up, coat of Poshe to cover. (did NOT need Gelous over the glitter!)

Back to my speciality- Dotticures!

I've been wanting to try the faded dot look for a while, but could NOT for the life of me find a teal that didn't turn me into a smurf for a week. I was moaning and groaning on facebook, and a polish angel (really) named Andrea  who blogs here and sells unique cosmetics here offered to make me a teal that wouldn't stain. Non. staining. teal. Well, she did, and sent it to me along with candy and some samples from her shop! Just because I needed it. Thank you!! So I added OPI Skull and Glossbones to the mix and dotted it up! Should have givn the dots more time to dry, but Poshe did a pretty good job anyway!

I tried, I really tried-

I have quite successfully done some needle drag manis, so when it came up for the PFC challenge, I was all, like, "I got this" and all. Big mistake using neons, BIG mistake taking a shortcut- Neons dry quickly, that was the idea for me, BUT they don't give you enough time to drag the needle properly. On top of that, I thought I would be all cute and use a striper brush instead of a needle, AND omit the fresh coat of base before the trim. Bad bad idea. Took a few embarrassed pics as a warning to to you all looking for shortcuts (there are none) then redid my manicure with some bright red/oranges. Live and learn.

NOTD-Utopia Hibiscus again!

I can't get enough of this red/coral/green/yellow/white/holo lovely! I layered it over bright green last time, but I tried the faintly yellowed pale tan known as China Glaze Kalahari Kiss this time for a more unusual pairing.  Application was pretty easy, a bit of pushing and shoving for the larger glitters, but overall a great experience. Gelous is necessary and Poshe topcoat. Could use a second layer of TC I think though.
All pics taken near open window.

PFC Jade/Aqua/Turquoise Day

The challenge today was a freestyle turquoise, aqua or jade (or all three- you pick) My first attempt (bottom pic) was a valiant effort using some new polishes I acquired in swaps, China Glaze Sunset Sail, a glassfleck pale peach, with NerdLacquer Cyance Friction over it in swaths trimmed with a Jessica purple glitter called Hollywood Life. Fail. Sorry Nerd, even you couldn't pull this one off. I promise a much better swatch and review of this gorgeous teal/glitter/ourplish shimmer beauty.
So I went with a couple other swap newbies, OPI Mermaid's Tears, a sage/jade cream perfect in two coats, sponged with China Glaze Watermelon  Rind and OPI Pros and Bronze. Poshe to top. Now I can wear this one out!

My first try- and massive fail!

Warning- NEVER do your nails while watching Dr. Who, understood! Dent on nail, bad patch on pinky, crappy purple lines, odd color pairing but Oh! look! Shiny!!! NL Cyance Friction!!! My aqua offering :) and coming off right now :(

KB Shimmer Strikes Again! Key Lime Pie!

I got worried when I heard that KB Shimmer here and here was discontinuing some of her polishes. Christy Rose is an amazing body products maker- mainly soaps and polishes. I hadn't gotten all her greens yet, so I ran over the her shop and grabbed up Key Lime Pie before it was gone forever.
Here is her description:

Key lime pie is one of my favorite desserts, and green is my favorite color, so I knew I wanted to do a polish inspired by the dessert! I started with a creamy neon green base, and then pumped up the lime with holographic lime glitter and green glitter in two sizes. Gold bar holographic glitter, and gold holo glitter mimic the pie crust, whole white bar, shred and hex glitters are a nice dollop of whipped cream to top off this pie polish.

All I know is that I am addicted to each and every one of her creations I have tried- they are full polishes in their own rights, much like nerdlacquers, complex and unique. Be on the alert, new collections are in the works for September and November.

This is three thin coats over basecoat. I'm ok with a little VNL I like the jelly neon effect. Two coats of Poshe to smooth.

NOTD Saved

I wanted to like this. really really wanted to like this. Pretty bottle, pretty polish, GREAT application even laying flat- no Gelous needed, just a layer of Poshe. Can't do it. All I think of when I look at my nails is toothpaste with whitening crystals. Whimsicals Kitty Glitter is gorgeous, really! On someone else. PM me for a swap. Now. Please.
I did manage to redeem it (a day's reprieve) with a layer of Hits Hefesto holo topcoat. Better, not great. ::::sigh::::
