My First Candy Lacquer- City Girl

Large matte hexes- white, black, red, blue and purple, medium pink, coral and green hexes, tiny white hexes and sparse white black and blue short bars.
Sounds like the recipe for a disaster, but it somehow comes together and looks modern and chic. The red hexes look corrugated and the purple have a plaidish imprint- very very cool. I dabbed it on with a sponge over two coats of China Glaze's Exotic Encounters, a medium dusty teal from this summer's On Safari Collection. Only slightly bumpy after a single thick coats of Seche Vite.

Debby Made Me Do It

No, not Debbie Crumpet, my precious Brit friend here. Although, she HAS been known to drive me to drink. And paint my nails orange. That's for another day.  I was debating the green/teal/blue nail challenge, but after days and days and days of rain (TS Debby anyone?) and everything here either growing rampantly green or molding (green) and all the water flooding blue, I needed a pick me up, something cheerful that screamed SUNSHINE!!! So I headed to my KBShimmers and grabbed the delightfully nearly neon Orange Pop. I wanted to get it bright without three coats, so I layered one thin, fairly streaky coat of Zoya Jancyn under it, then applied two coats of Orange Pop. It was thinner than I expected, but needed very little placing of the larger glitters. It is smooth with only a coat of Seche Vite over it. Here's her bottle shot http://www.kbshimmer.com/OrangePop1.jpg and it really really is that pretty.

NOTD Model's Own Copper Pot

As many other much more experienced and sage reviewers before me have noted, there isn't much copper in this polish, but there is a beautiful deep rose gold/orange/pale olive shimmer at various angles. It's quite watery and maybe 4 thin coats would have more coverage, but I was happy at three. The brush is perfect and I made sure to wait at least a full minute between coats, so no cuticle drag. I daubed on some Utopia Dragon Heart on the accent nails. Out the Door topcoats, smooth and perfect.

Go, read, follow (I'm mentioned in her post!!!)

Whimsical Kee & Wee

I've been mourning the apparent death of the company nerdlacquer (not the creator, I hope!) and have been spreading my net far and wide looking for non topcoat indie glitter polishes, the ones that don't need anything under them. I finally took a good look at Whimsical Nail Polish by Pam here. Interesting way to order, you send her an email with your list, wait a bit, get an invoice, pay and then she ships. I think it took about 10 days total to get my polishes. My first foray here is with the apple green Kee & Wee. It contains large silver, pale gold (I think) hexes, smaller hexes of the same, and tiny teal and silver micro glitter. Much of it gets sunk into the green, but it's slightly jelly and completely opaque in three thin coats. One coat Gelous and one of Poshe in the pictures. There's a depth and a clear design to this polish that tells me it wasn't thrown together, it was created. I'm glad she made this, it's unique to my collection, and I'm looking forward to trying others and seeing what Pam has planned for the future!

Another Jade Holo gradient

full sun

this is the bubblegum pink, silver and purple sponged on over one coat of Sonia Kashuk Smoke and Mirrors (or, as ALU says, "silver on crack") I think the silver breaks up the holo alot and dulls it down a bit- they are rather sheer and would need three coats for full coverage.

Jade Holo Rainbows

When ninjapolish.com decided to carry the intense Brazilian holo polishes from Jade recently, me  being the one that ALWAYS misses the deals, I determined that would NOT happen this time, and with their free shipping, these were less than Sally Hansen Salon polishes from the local drugstore. I started with this

then swatched them to this
then did a quick sponge rainbow mani like this- (one coat of Nailtiques #1 base then 1 coat of the gold, sponged with a painted makeup wedge with gold, teal and blue) Poshe topcoat. it's still a bit sheer, but I'm liking the effect. PERFECT application, thin polish but wonderful brush, no dulling whatsoever with topcoat.

Neons!

Just comparing a few of this summer's China Glaze Summer Neons with the 2009  Color Club Electrocandy collections- the ChG are a bit more plush and look nicer without topcoats, but the brighter color and more obvious shimmers inn the CC make that collection the winner in my book.

KB Shimmer Vegas Bomb

This polish makes me yearn for a camera and lightbox! I WISH I could show you the realio trulio glitters jammed into this murky yellow pigmented base (with tiny red glitters) Here is her link so you can see what it REALLY looks like! :::sigh:::
Being the frugal polishaholic I am, I layered two thin coats of Vegas Bomb over a couple coats of Sally Hansen Salon Yellow Kitty- a thin, ever so slightly greenish streaky yellow, but the same base as VB. (saving grace with Sally Hansen Salon- LOVE LOVE the wide brush)  KB Shimmer has an amazing talent for making polishes with pigment that don't overshadow the glitters, as well as using amazing base that suspends the glitter perfectly- no digging, very little dabbing.  One coat of prolana Quick and Slick and one of Poshe- smooth except for a very few of the large holo squares.

Summer Neons!

Not sure if I can do it, but I *may* try to fit this in for a PFC Summer challenge nail soon, so you might see it again... I finally found my mannequin nail color (color that matches your skin tone) in Sally Hansen Salon Complete Cafe au Lait.  I like using neons, I'm just not thrilled with white polish against my skin- it makes me look blue. I'm so pale I need a tan just to be white! So I decided to put neon dots over beige- and this is a very pretty beige/dark cream- it has a tiny drop of peach shimmer to it, and took three coats to be opaque- and while my brush was a bit miscut- it went on with no clean up necessary. Assorted China Glaze, Color Club and Zoya neons and voila! Poshe topcoat.

the pointer shows the true color best- this is three coats, no topcoat

My Standing Wednesday at 5

Actually, she came Tuesday to fit me into her busy schedule- see, her brother is set to be born Thursday and she had to have her nails done early so she can pick out her outfit tomorrow. Grandpa and Grandma next door watch her every week.

Normally she requests pink, but today was special. A Wainbow...errr, rainbow. Assorted China Glaze and Orly brights with China Glaze Techno over top. Perfection. See you next week, same time, same place, Emma!

PFC Summer Challenge- Summer Fete

YES, two days in a row! Don't expect this now, as a regular thing, OK?
I managed to snag a couple KBShimmer glitter polishes, as she very graciously offered a presale to a fb group I am in. (Thanks Christy!) Our theme for today was Summer Fete (party) and I figured what is more summery than neon! China Glaze I'm With the Lifeguard  shimmery green neon. This is really quite opaque at two coats and with letting it dry completely between coats, no cuticle drag. I dabbed KBShimmer Clown Puke - (what makes this really different from all the other multi glitters is an abundance of smaller glitters and white matte hexes and squares) on the tips, then Gelous and Seche Vite to top (it's pretty chunky with the large hexes and bar glitter. Then, I had to matte it. Happy Summer! And go check out the other challengers manis too!

Hot Hot Hot Combo-Nerdlacquer Hyperspace Bypass

So today's item in the Purple Crumpet Fairy Summer Challenge series is Hot Hot Hot Combo- lending itself nicely to my latest and happiest swap to date- Nerdlacquer's Hyperspace Bypass! over China Glaze Sunshine Pop. Nerdlacquers are rarer than hen's teeth these days, as the artist has seemingly dropped off the face of the earth, and her polishes are selling for horrific markups on fleabay. The combination of complex glitters and colored bases are just about second to none and I love each and every one of the handful of nerds I have, so I was beside myself with joy when I found a swapper in Swapaholics (thanks again Missy R!)  that would take my (now discontinued) Cult Nails Toxic Seaweed in trade for this lovely yellow creature.
I layered one easy coat over two coats of ChG Sunshine Pop, a shimmering bright yellow not quite neon from the 2012 Electropop collection. (why do I always say Electrpoop in my head when I see that?) Sunshine Pop was still a bit streaky after two coats (unlike my fave ChG yellow- Solar Power) but I knew the yellow base in HB would cover any streaks. On its own HB would be a tad darker and more jelly like, but I am too chintzy with my nerds to use two coats. Still loving the results- wish you could see the random tiny gold holo glitters and sparse larger holo hexes sprinkled among black, yellow and gold glitters of various sizes. {{{love}}} Easy Gelous and Poshe over top.

Check out the other Hot Hot Hot challengers!

Pretty and Polished Bubble Tea

My daughter and her husband AND MY GRANDSON are in town from California and I had been saving P&P's Bubble Tea for her. I only got a mini, so that *may* be why it was incredibly hard to get the black glitter out of the bottle, even though I had it upside down for a day. Also, the polish is quite thin and sheer, so we wound up using 4 or 5 coats on her nails. It's quite pretty, with a faint shimmer to the base, but it had so many layers it peeled away in sheets the second day. I have not had this issue with several other polishes by the same seller, but it's still quite an unusual and pretty polish. Very unique.

SOMEONE needs practice "posing" hehe

Beth's Birthday Special

My dear friend and fellow lacquerista Debbie Crumpet has a darling daughter Beth who turns 9 today, June 3. She hinted around, she asked, well, she demanded that everyone, every single blogger post a special mani dedicated to Beth. (she actually asked pretty pretty please if it wouldn't be too much trouble or bother)

I agonized over this manicure. Should I pick pink and glittery? Should I do cupcakes and birthday type stuff? Should I do (gasp!) purple, since it's Debbie's fave, and, after all, SHE was the one that gave birth to the wonderful Miss Beth.

Nope, I decided to use, for the first time, the rarest polish I have, a custom made for me by the now missing in action Amanda Collier of Nerdlacquer. Back in February AC made me a polish based on her bronzy-coppery Cuprum, but added a ton more orange glitter, naming it Cuprum Flaming- here is her email about it-

You're very welcome! :D I thought you'd like that special-edition version of Cuprum! It's got a ton of bright orange glitters as well as the regular copper...bet it'll make a killer top coat, too. Enjoy!

ac

I started with a base of the micro-glassfleck Gosh Orange Drops- a fairly sheer but perfectly shimmery, juicy pale orange. Three coats made it nearly opaque, than I dabbed on Cuprum Flaming on the tips.

So, since Beth is one-of-a-kind, I dedicate my one-of-a-kind polish manicure to her- here's blessing you with a very very happy birthday, lovely Beth, and many more!
