NerdLacquer Hyperspace Bypass

I've been avoiding my glitterbomb polishes, as my cuticles can't handle the acetone bath needed to remove them. I took a chance this time, as I have acquired a bottle of Glitter A-Peel (GAP) by NailPatternBoldness. Two thick coats of the base, then two of HB followed by two coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast TC. I only wore this about 36 hours, but with careful prodding from an orange stick I was able to remove 99% without acetone in about 5 minutes. My nails are very thin and I worked slowly to not gouge them. A couple nails came off in one sheet, most required a little work, but all in all a very satisfying event. I will be wearing more glitter with this base from now on!! And Hyperspace is so fave that I just got a back up. The new bottles have less fine glitter, but still beautiful.

Oh Nerdlacquer.....Gorramit and The Eye

Feeling glitter today- been a long time since that happened, and with the restocks Amanda has been doing, I feel a little more comfortable using these polishes- not like I'm giving away the farm any longer. Gorramit was gifted to me by The Crumpet many moons ago, and it's still my favorite yellow, perhaps favorite polish. Red and gold glitters in bright yellow polish, yes please! I accented with The Eye, a red-orange jelly with red gold and a few larger black glitters.  Top coat hungry, Poshe and Gelous over.

Home of the Untempered Schism

I'm starting to get excited about the return of Dr. Who, with the 50th anniversary special then the 12th Doctor. I managed to snag this Nerd Lacquer and a couple others in the last random appearance of Amanda in the polish world back in June. So glad I did- it's a gorgeous copper gold metallic base stuffed with gold glitters, tiny red speck glitters, two sizes of matte black, a faint sprinkle of tiny holo glitters and, the most unique of all,  small slightly sage GREEN holo glitters. Not wanting to waste a precious drop, with this beauty being a tad sheer, I layered it over one thin coat of Essence Golden Sands, an almost perfect match for the golden base in HOTUTS. I used a layer of Gelous then Poshe to make it smooth. The glitters lay quite flat and applied almost perfectly. Amazing-

Nerdlacquer Quantum Bluniverse

I did NOT expect to like this Nerd, regardless of it's impeccable credentials and the super-human effort it took to procure it. Two hours refreshing on ninjapolish.com landed me two Nerds. HOWEVER I am trying to broaden my horizons from the earth tones I dearly love and decided a blue Nerd would fit the bill. Now the surprise- I adore this polish. It applied smoothly and two thin coats made it opaque, but oh my what an opaque! A deep teal blue jelly with a golden-green shifting shimmer accented by assorted blue and gold glitters. No need for gelous, this was smooth with one coat of Poshe.

Holy Cow, Holy Grail!

The wonderful and beyond generous Shannon did a recent swap with me for a polish they can't get in the frozen North :) I wound up on the better end of it, with another Nerd lacquer for my small but precious collection, Holy Grail! I am NOT a writer, clearly, here are Amanda's and ninjapolish's decription:
****************************************************************

Holy Grail is a super-fine-grained satiny linear holo in a dusty blue-green base with silver microglitter, medium blue-green iridescent glitter, and a liberal sprinkling of big square and hexagonal silver holo glitter. Oh, also? Glows in the damn dark.

Glow-in-the-dark linear holo glitter polish. That's about all that needs to be said.

What's extra fun about this one is that indoors or in shade, the linear holo is invisible but the blue/green iridescent glitter is AMAZING. In full sun, the blue/green glitter disappears, and it's WHOA, HOLO CITY. And then of course in the dark, oooooooo! Magic!
******************************************************************

I layered it over two thin coats of OPI Thanks a Windmillion which has the same base color. One coat Poshe to cover- this glitter is very smooth.

Full sun

NerdLacquer No Medal For Chewie

So what do you do to get the taste of RED out of your mouth? Green? Yellow? Gold? Glitter? All of the above! Since I just cut back all my nails I decided it was a great time to break out an expensive polish (you use less on short nails) thereby extending the pleasure! It has a bright olive base with a fine gold shimmer and gold and different green hex glitters. Coverage is great, I did two thin coats and just had to move a couple larger glitters that wanted to stick together. This makes me so happy, thank you Shannon!!! I used Gelous and Poshe over.

PFC Jade/Aqua/Turquoise Day

The challenge today was a freestyle turquoise, aqua or jade (or all three- you pick) My first attempt (bottom pic) was a valiant effort using some new polishes I acquired in swaps, China Glaze Sunset Sail, a glassfleck pale peach, with NerdLacquer Cyance Friction over it in swaths trimmed with a Jessica purple glitter called Hollywood Life. Fail. Sorry Nerd, even you couldn't pull this one off. I promise a much better swatch and review of this gorgeous teal/glitter/ourplish shimmer beauty.
So I went with a couple other swap newbies, OPI Mermaid's Tears, a sage/jade cream perfect in two coats, sponged with China Glaze Watermelon  Rind and OPI Pros and Bronze. Poshe to top. Now I can wear this one out!

My first try- and massive fail!

Warning- NEVER do your nails while watching Dr. Who, understood! Dent on nail, bad patch on pinky, crappy purple lines, odd color pairing but Oh! look! Shiny!!! NL Cyance Friction!!! My aqua offering :) and coming off right now :(

Hot Hot Hot Combo-Nerdlacquer Hyperspace Bypass

So today's item in the Purple Crumpet Fairy Summer Challenge series is Hot Hot Hot Combo- lending itself nicely to my latest and happiest swap to date- Nerdlacquer's Hyperspace Bypass! over China Glaze Sunshine Pop. Nerdlacquers are rarer than hen's teeth these days, as the artist has seemingly dropped off the face of the earth, and her polishes are selling for horrific markups on fleabay. The combination of complex glitters and colored bases are just about second to none and I love each and every one of the handful of nerds I have, so I was beside myself with joy when I found a swapper in Swapaholics (thanks again Missy R!)  that would take my (now discontinued) Cult Nails Toxic Seaweed in trade for this lovely yellow creature.
I layered one easy coat over two coats of ChG Sunshine Pop, a shimmering bright yellow not quite neon from the 2012 Electropop collection. (why do I always say Electrpoop in my head when I see that?) Sunshine Pop was still a bit streaky after two coats (unlike my fave ChG yellow- Solar Power) but I knew the yellow base in HB would cover any streaks. On its own HB would be a tad darker and more jelly like, but I am too chintzy with my nerds to use two coats. Still loving the results- wish you could see the random tiny gold holo glitters and sparse larger holo hexes sprinkled among black, yellow and gold glitters of various sizes. {{{love}}} Easy Gelous and Poshe over top.

Check out the other Hot Hot Hot challengers!

Beth's Birthday Special

My dear friend and fellow lacquerista Debbie Crumpet has a darling daughter Beth who turns 9 today, June 3. She hinted around, she asked, well, she demanded that everyone, every single blogger post a special mani dedicated to Beth. (she actually asked pretty pretty please if it wouldn't be too much trouble or bother)

I agonized over this manicure. Should I pick pink and glittery? Should I do cupcakes and birthday type stuff? Should I do (gasp!) purple, since it's Debbie's fave, and, after all, SHE was the one that gave birth to the wonderful Miss Beth.

Nope, I decided to use, for the first time, the rarest polish I have, a custom made for me by the now missing in action Amanda Collier of Nerdlacquer. Back in February AC made me a polish based on her bronzy-coppery Cuprum, but added a ton more orange glitter, naming it Cuprum Flaming- here is her email about it-

You're very welcome! :D I thought you'd like that special-edition version of Cuprum! It's got a ton of bright orange glitters as well as the regular copper...bet it'll make a killer top coat, too. Enjoy!

ac

I started with a base of the micro-glassfleck Gosh Orange Drops- a fairly sheer but perfectly shimmery, juicy pale orange. Three coats made it nearly opaque, than I dabbed on Cuprum Flaming on the tips.

So, since Beth is one-of-a-kind, I dedicate my one-of-a-kind polish manicure to her- here's blessing you with a very very happy birthday, lovely Beth, and many more!

GORRAMIT!!!

quick NOTD (that's becoming more common, yeah I know) A dear friend once again has blown my mind with her kindness towards me and sent me some mail recently. This nerdlacquer  gem was included- oh my. Mustard yellow shimmer with small red squares, tiny gold glitter, larger copper glitter and hexes and bronze hexes. Perfect. VERY TC hungry, I have Gelous AND SV over and it needs another coat.

My New Favorite Polish! Nerdlacquer's Purely Logical

It WOULD have to be an indie polish, nerdlacquer to be precise. Most people get theirs from etsy, ninjapolish.com or thinkgeek.com. I was gifted this by the wonderful lacquerista, blogger and mommy named Debbie Crumpet (shout out to Beth!) She raved over it but was not happy with the way it looked on her and I was only too happy to let her pitch it across the ocean to me! Nerdlacquers are one of the few etsy/indie polishes that are opaque in their own rights. Three thin coats and some Gelous and Seche Vite and this is smooth as glass. I was surprised it was not lumpier, the thinness and opacity only endear it even more to me. There is so much happening here you need a macro, which I can not provide, but the inventor does here: Purely Logical I have a few of her other polishes and I can HIGHLY recommend them all.

Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge April Fools' Dark and Twisted

Nerdlacquer's Crunchy Frog! Not too much more twisted than a polish that resembles a frog after it's been in a blender a while! Two coats over a base of Barielle Green Opal (a stunner on its own) then Gelous and Seche Vite over- very smooth!

Love Yourself Manicure!

I was getting a bit stressed trying to do at least a FEW of the weekly/daily challenges, and was under a bit of condemnation when Claire from Purple Fairy Dust wrote about doing your nails just for yourself- (here) So I took a deep breath and forgot about the challenges- if I get there, I get there, otherwise... meh. This one makes me very very happy- Zoya Yara, a multi-faceted olive green with golden and green and maybe a few red or copper glitters in it. This polish made me smile from the first nail! It went on like a dream- everything I love in a polish. I put it over Seche Rebuild and Seche Clear. I had just gotten some nerdlacquer so I did a single coat of Aurum over one nail then added my favorite color, orange, dots to the others. OPI Roll in the Hague from their new Holland collection is amazing. Dense, creamy and a perfect bright orange cream. Seche Vite and Gelous over the glitter nails with Out The Door over the others.
And Matted- I prefer this actually!
